The Enhancing Communities Learning Series (ECLS) is a program of Temple University Harrisburg. The series offers you a convenient way to learn about important and relevant issues affecting nonprofits while enjoying a meal with your colleagues in the community. The Enhancing Communities Learning Series provides more than a chance to passively listen to presentations. We want you to be part of an interactive process of discovering new talents, opportunities and resources in the community – all while making the community more aware of your organization’s work. Each Learning Series session includes: a meal and networking; a call for announcements about upcoming events; workshops and funding opportunities; a workshop on a topic germane to nonprofit capacity building or community issues. Grant Seeking and Writing
Because of the success of our 2017 Grant Writing ECLS program, and in advance of Temple Harrisburg's upcoming Grant Writing Series Certificate, we are offering another session on this topic!

Facilitated by Shirley Moy and Link Martin of Temple University, this workshop will focus on the important step of developing a budget for your proposal. Topics including how to develop a proposal budget, compensation and non-compensation budgeting, and calculating indirect costs will be covered - along with Fiscal compliance issues after you receive a grant.  Although the workshop is geared to not-so-experienced grant writers, more experienced writers seeking a refresher also are welcome. Different material will be offered in this session than was presented during the 2017 program.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand differences in compensation/non-compensation budget categories (i.e. the different types of project expenses; how to calculate costs)

  • Develop a basic project budget (i.e. what to do before approaching funders)

  • Describe basic fiscal compliance issues  (i.e., basic dos and don’ts)

  • About the Presenters

Shirley Moy, BSW, MSW, is director of Temple University’s Center for Social Policy and Community Development. She has extensive experience in proposal writing and has been successful in obtaining grants from foundations, contracts from multiple local and state government agencies, and awards from various federal agencies.

Link Martin, MSW, has been with Temple University for 21 years and has served as the Director of Temple University Harrisburg since 2003. He has extensive background in development of nonprofits, human service management and fund development.
